Peter Young
Founder & CEO
Peter Young is an educator and entrepreneur based in Falls Church, Virginia. A graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Peter spent 23 years in education, first as a classroom teacher and then as an elementary and middle school principal. When his own daughter started the college search process, he saw firsthand how overwhelming and expensive it was for families. Private college counselors typically charge $5,000 or more. The national ratio of school counselors to students is 385 to 1. Peter built My School List because every family deserves better than that. MSL is a comprehensive college planning platform that gives every student personalized school matches, real admissions data, merit aid estimates, essay coaching, scholarship discovery, and application tracking. It is everything a private counselor provides, at a fraction of the cost. He is still navigating the process alongside his daughter, so this is not just his product. It is his family’s too.
John Bland
Chief Technology Officer
John Bland is a technology leader and builder with a track record of launching and scaling data-driven products at companies like Databricks, Snowflake, and Splunk. He has spent his career at the intersection of technology and go-to-market, helping organizations bring complex data platforms to life and turn them into repeatable, revenue-generating solutions. From developing sales plays adopted globally to advising executives on modern data architectures, John excels at translating technical capability into real-world value. As CTO of My School List, John is focused on building a product that democratizes access to college admissions insights using data and AI to replace guesswork with clarity. He is passionate about creating tools that are not only technically sophisticated, but genuinely useful for everyday users navigating high-stakes decisions. John is excited to join Peter and the My School List leadership team.
